The Xavier Society has an active corps of over 80 volunteers, committed to the ministry of providing Catholic spiritual and inspirational reading materials free-of-charge to the visually impaired. Volunteers assist in recording materials (both reading and monitoring the recording), transcription, clerical work, reception duties, production assistance in Braille and large print. All of these services are donated at our offices in Manhattan, during regular business hours (M-F, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m) . We are also in the process of creating volunteer opportunities on line, for people who cannot get out or who live outside the New York area. If you can proofread on line, or have computer or artistic skills that can be shared over the internet, please contact us and introduce yourself.
We also have a dedicated group of friends who create and assist in an assortment of volunteer activities that help raise funds to keep our work alive and growing.
If you are interested in joining the fellowship of volunteers who assist the staff in providing this vital ministry, please call, write or e-mail. Let us know your area of interest, and we will schedule an audition (for readers) or an interview (for other areas). If you call, ask for Tom Dowd (for readers) or for Ramona (for other areas).
Check our "Contact us" page to ask us a question or offer to volunteer.
