SAVE THE DATE - UPCOMING EVENTS
May 19, 2009 - Once again, thanks to the generosity of the Huckleberry Indians and a dedicated committee of volunteers, we will be presenting the Annual Fr. Joe Latella Party and Silent Auction. The party was originally Fr. Joe's idea, and his many friends helped him make his idea a great celebration which also raised money for the Xavier Society. The location again will be the New York Athletic Club, and details will be made available here on the web site as the date draws near. But mark it in your calendar NOW!
NEW STAFF AT XSB
Two new staff members have joined the Xavier Society for the Blind:P Kieran Hobler has come on board as the full-time assistant in the sound and recording department, and Fr. Thomas Denny, SJ will be part-time, helping in the library, and continuing his volunteer work recording, and editing the Catholic Review. Welcome to both!
XSB GOES TO BROADWAY
To celebrate the 25 years that Margie Montenegro has worked at the Xavier Society, and the 10 years of Ramona Betancourt's tenure, in July all the staff went out to lunch and to see a Broadway play, Boeing Boeing. Lunch was possible by a generous gift from a donor in memory of Fr. Latella, and Fr. John's connections got us good seats at a very good price. After the show, everyone went backstage and met with Christine Baranski, the star of the show. Margie is to the left of Ms. Baranski, Ramona is on the right and Kathleen Lynch, Executive Director, is on the far right.
XSB ANNUAL CALENDAR
Each year the Xavier Society for the Blind produces a large-print calendar which includes major feasts and saints' days throughout the year. There is no charge for this calendar, which has proved to be very popular for those with limited vision. Our regular clients have already received their copies. If you know someone who is partially-sighted or who has vision problems, please contact us and we will be delighted to send a calendar to them, as long as our supplies last.
